If you’re a professional basketball player, there’s bound to be some downtimes, when you’re so sick of training and practice that you just randomly come up with fun ways to amuse yourself and confound your teammates. We guess? Otherwise it’s even harder to explain this video recently tweeted from the Chicago Bulls camp, in which power forward Nikola Mirotic lures his teammates into trying concoctions like a (disgusting, we assume) mayonnaise-and-jelly sandwich.
First small forward Paul Zipser gets on board; then Mirotic is aided in his diabolic scheme by team mascot Benny The Bull, who works his magic on shooting guard Quincy Pondexter and center Robin Lopez, who welcomes his bite of sandwich by muttering “hakuna matata.” Small forward Denzel Valentine just straight-up refuses.
The next special concoction Mirotic prepares is an Oreo dipped into a mason jar (nicely detailed with a Bulls insignia) filled with orange juice. While Oreos dipped in milk is a classic, we can only imagine that the acidic base of the OJ breaks down the Oreo and… actually, we don’t like to think about it. Brave Bulls like point guards Zach LaVine and Kris Dunn, as well as center Cristiano Felicio, give it a whirl, and have about the exact disgusted reaction that we would expect.
Not sure what the point of this little exercise is, or if there will be a followup, but it’s fun to see our Chicago Bulls in a different kind of arena, and being good sports about trying gross food. Probably the best moment is when Lopez chastises Benny The Bull for trying to eat the plate instead of the sandwich: “You’re a role model for children! Don’t eat plates, kids!” The Twitter commenters seem disappointed by the lack of power forward Bobby Portis. Maybe he’ll show up next time.
