Two Florida Chick-Fil-As Open Within 587 Feet Of Each Other

The residents of Merritt Island, Florida, are facing an unusual choice. Come Wednesday, they may eat their fill of waffle fries and chicken sandwiches at the Chick-Fil-A located at 777 E. Merritt Island Causeway, Suite 164, or at the new Chick-Fil-A opening at 785 E. Merritt Island Causeway. Yes, those addresses are within 0.1 miles of each other.

The Orlando Sentinel reports on the truly remarkable Chick-Fil-A double up, in which the new Chick-Fil-A location is "almost within sight" of the existing Chick-Fil-A.

Erm, why?

The existing Merritt Island Chick-Fil-A, the one at Suite 164, is located in the food court of the Merritt Square Mall. The new Chick-Fil-A, the freestanding one, is located in the mall's parking lot. Using Google Maps, I calculate that they're about 587 feet from each other, give or take some steps within the mall to reach the food court.

This is completely logical, people! What if you bypassed the food court Chick-Fil-A as you beelined for the buy-one-get-one sale at Yankee Candle, only to experience a pang of chicken-sando regret once you'd reached the parking lot?
