Sarah Michelle Gellar And Everyone Else Should Eat Whatever They Want On Thanksgiving

Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar could not have predicted the kerfuffle that was about to explode when she posted a 2007 hottie picture of herself to Instagram. She commented that it was a reminder "not to overeat on Thursday."

The internet being the hot-takes hellscape that it is, SMG was almost immediately accused of "fat-shaming," with many commenters taking issue with her apparent conflation of guilt and indulgence. She consequently submitted an apology, according to The Independent, saying, "It's come to my attention that some people think I was 'fat shaming' with this post. That could not be further from my intentions... I love Thanksgiving and unfortunately my eyes are often bigger than my stomach, and I tend to eat so much I make myself sick. This was a joking reminder to myself not to do that."

Some thoughts: First, Sarah Michelle Gellar gets a lifetime Buffy pass, and shouldn't feel badly about something she posts on her own private Instagram. Her apology is unnecessary.

In fact, we appreciate that someone like Gellar is willing to reveal her own diet and health attempts with us. The struggle is real, even for the vampire slayers among us. But we hope this flared-up controversy may convince SMG of one small thing: Thanksgiving comes but once a year. Like all of us, may she find it in her heart to indulge tomorrow without guilt (but also without getting sick). It's the kind of day that should also get a pass; this is why we wear the stretchy pants to Thanksgiving dinner.

If Gellar, like most of us, discovers that those pants fit a little snugger on Friday, well, that's why the gym is open. Looking at you, Friday morning spin class.
