Polish Off That Resume And Apply To Be A World-Traveling Gin Taster

It's raining in Chicago, and I am working from a Starbucks that is currently playing Billy Joel's "Only The Good Die Young," which is a fun song but one I've heard more than once today and small doses, friends, small doses. I am cold and cranky and sweaty and I need a nap, and I love my job, but holy shit, does the following opportunity sound appealing in this dire moment.

A bar group in London, Mr. Fogg's, has joined forces with Bombay Sapphire gin to send one lucky drinker and one friend of that lucky drinker around the world on an all-expenses-paid voyage. While on that jaunt, they will sample gin, document their adventures, and collect botanicals and ingredients for a cocktail at the group's next, soon-to-debut location.

Mr. Fogg's Society of Exploration will open, per Travel + Leisure, on September 14, and is inspired by Phileas Fogg, the protagonist of Around The World In 80 Days. Thus it's no surprise that this trip will also clock in at a tight 80 days, just enough time to visit Hong Kong, Paris, New York City, San Francisco, Bombay, and other far-flung locales.

Often when we write about these short-term dream jobs, it's a luck-of-the-draw kind of thing—one lucky winner chosen at random, or because they came up with a funny flavor idea, or something. Not so this gig. Candidates have to be the following things, per Mr. Fogg's website, among others: "Formidable, brave and a lover of the unknown;" "Well-versed in the medium of 'social media'" and "Prominent on various of these platforms of 'social media;'" "Able to take a well-lit and well-assembled photograph;" "Talented in the art of written expression, just like my dear friend Verne;" "Willing to clothe oneself in Victorian finery."

The lucky new-hire will get paid an undisclosed sum at the end of the jaunt. Applications are due August 27, so hop to it, if ye dare.
