Delicious, endangered salamander

In a news report reminiscent of Mr. Burns’ “See My Vest” bit, The Express reports on an endangered Chinese salamander that unfortunately tastes like chicken. This is funny for about half a minute before you realize this animal is on the brink of extinction, and is the world’s largest amphibian. Come on, let’s just eat actual chicken instead. Benevolent, paternal Labrador

In the good news part of our bad news/good news animal news day, meet Fred! He’s a 10-year-old Labrador retriever who adopted nine ducklings that were “abandoned by their mum” on the grounds of a castle in Essex, according to Suffolk Now. The little ducks have really taken to Fred, riding around on his back or following him to the moat for a quick dip. I kind of can’t get enough of this story, to be honest. Plus, they all get to live by a castle. [Gwen Ihnat]
