  • Growing up in a diner family, Buffy learned the fine art of sipping steaming hot cocoa from a teaspoon, and that piping hot mashed potatoes and chicken fried steak equals comfort on a platter. (Her current quest is to find a good vegetarian equivalent of this dish.)
  • For NPR News 91, she interviewed jazz musician and former Undersecretary General of Internal Oversight for the United Nations, Karl Theodor Pasche; they chatted over breakfast about jazz music's role in his diplomatic career.
  • Buffy's current obsession is urban sketching, and she dreams of hitting the road with about ten sketchbooks and various drawing instruments and documenting her travels (and a few of her meals) through her drawings.

Experience

Buffy has worked in the media industry since 1999, contributing to outlets like Der Spiegel Online (Berlin, Germany), USA Today Travel, AZ Central, CBS Radio, and more. For the past 10+ years, she has primarily concentrated on food, beverage, and travel reporting. She was the Boise Food Examiner for the now-defunct site Examiner, where her column was number one in the Boise market and in the top five across the whole site. And now she's a food writer for Static Media, with articles on brand sites, like Mashed, Foodie, and ChowHound. Buffy developed her love of food in art and literature when she was studying German literature at Boise State University. Before she became a writer, she worked in the food and beverage industry for 12 years as a server, bartender, host, manager, and barista. Of course, that doesn't count the many times she was roped into doing the dishes at Lakey's Cafe, her family's diner while she was growing up.

Education

Buffy studied German literature and culture at Boise State University before going on to earn a master's degree in educational technology, also from Boise State. She additionally studied at the University of the Saarland and the Berlin Free University. Currently, Buffy is finishing up art school and one day hopes to see her art decorating the walls of diners across the country.
