Baker Cuts Into Lifelike Animal Cakes, People Freak Out

Granted, maybe we're a little slow. But this seems to be pretty clear: You make a cake, and it's meant to be eaten. Otherwise, what's the point of making a cake, no matter how beautiful (or realistic?) it is? Nevertheless, truly gifted cake artist The Cake Illusionist is under fire because her lifelike food sculptures of animals like dogs and horses will eventually get cut up into smaller pieces and gastronomically enjoyed.

The Cake Illusionist's name is Hannah Edwards and lives in Hemel Hempstead, England. After posting some videos showing her cutting into her realistic cakes (which cost about $330), The Daily Mail reports, "She has received more than 10,000 comments on her video clips, including one that reads: 'THIS IS DISGUSTING!!!! What's wrong with people – how can you cut and eat a cake that looks like a real animal, eyes, face, heart, ribs?!? Barbaric. STUPID.' Another added: 'That's just sick! Making a realistic dog or any living creature and cut it with knife eating it [sic]! I find it gross and stupid!!'"

Edwards, understandably, has been unnerved by this fervent negative public reaction, saying "The level of aggression in these comments is madness."

We are inclined to agree. These are not actual animals. What is the problem?
